Over the years I have coloured my hair naturally! Sometimes I was happy with the outcome, other times I did not know what to do with my hair! When it went well, it looked good. Other times it was a Hair Dye Disaster that was so bad that I had to re-dye my hair!

Hair Dye Disaster

Hair Colour Gone Wrong! One year (I think it was about 8 years ago!) I thought that I would go really blond…like a Blonde that was so light that it would not be a natural look but I wanted to see what it would like!  I brought two boxes, and went to town. Within 30 minutes my hair was going through a different change. A different outlook, and a new colour. I waited the 45 minutes like it stated on the box. Then I jumped into the shower and washed my hair and then added the conditioner. I lathered up my hair and washed it all out. I still had not looked into the mirror at this stage!

Oh Was That The Biggest Hair Dye Disaster Ever!

So I jumped out of the shower and was drying off my hair. Within a few moments I was about to look into the mirror, and see what new colour I had put through my hair. I think that even my family was keen to see a “new Mum” but they were just as shocked as what I was!! I thought because my hair was wet that it was so bright orange so I decided to dry my hair with a dryer. After 15 minutes of drying my hair I was still stunned. I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror with a look of shock on my face at my new Hair Dye Disaster.

Bright Orange Instead Of Blonde

So I was Bright Orange instead of Blonde. Not that orange is a bad colour, but with my complexion and hair dye orange that looked so fake, I was so disappointed and so scarred. How was I going to drop of kids to school in the morning looking like that? How was I going to walk out the bathroom door and show my family. By that time they were knocking on the door, keen to see a Blonde Mum! Gee there were in for a huge surprise :)

Open The Door To Shocked Faces

So I opened the door and there were all of their excited faces, which within minutes turned to shock faces. Remember this was a few years ago so we only had four boys…and our fourth boy was to young to understand! But even he cried when he saw me! That was when I really knew that my Hair Dye Disaster was bad!  I think that by that stage I burst into tears……there was no way that I could walk around with hair that looked like a hair dye gone wrong – so wrong that I was ready to cut it all off :)

The Local Chemist To The Rescue

Hair Dye Disaster Fixed!

Luckily for me the local chemist was open. I jumped into the car, with a hat over my head, and went straight to the local chemist. There I walked into the back of the shop and located their hair dye. I stood there for ages trying to work out which colour would over-ride my Hair Dye Disaster job! I think that I got the darkest colour possible, in the hope that it would at least make the bright orange a dull orange, or even turn a little bit of my hair back to a darker shade!

After another 45 minutes and washing of my very clean hair, I was lucky that I was no longer blonde gone wrong, nor a bright glow in the dark orange. I was back to a darker shade and looked almost normal. That was my Hair Dye Disaster story. Do you have your own Hair Dye Disaster Story? If you do then why not enter the competition that is being held over at the site “Health Wellness For Women Over 50” so that you could be in the draw for the gorgeous make-up that is being offered as a prize which is all natural!

Cheers

Lisa

  1. This is a very funny story, Lisa. I am sure there will be some great “Hair Dye Disaster” entries into the competition.

    Hi Lisa

I can just imagine the looks of horror! Looking back now I imagine it seems so funny. I can picture your orange hair colour – some time ago I decided to try blond streaks, not as dramatic as your “Norwegian blond” attempt, but instead of blond I had definite orangutang orange streaks! Thanks goodness for cover up hair colour!

Very funny story and I love the picture of the troll! I have had this happen before going blonde from brown…. Since learning from my ways I found out when you go from brown to blonde or vice versa, you actually have to go red in between. Otherwise you start getting orange when you try go blonde, or green when you try go brown.

A little tip i learnt from the hair dresser as well is that if you have a problem like this you can go and buy a cheap packet of dried tomato soup mix and rinse it through! it often relieves the colour!

Great tip Tegan, thanks for sharing!

Never knew about the Dried Tomato Soup Mix before :) Great idea!

I don’t have to be concerned with hair colour as I am a permanent blonde these days and a little thin on top.

Loved the story, good to have a laugh.

  6. Hi Lisa
I had a good laugh at that one, I like the part where your son cried, it was a sure indicator that something was wrong.
I used to help my wife colour her hair but she has decided not to colour it any more but everyone says Janette looks good with grey hair. Best regards, Keith
