What Does The Word Halloween Really Mean?
The History of Halloween
Halloween started over 2000 yrs ago with people known as the Celtics.
They lived in what is today England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This was also the beginning of the Celtic new year, a time to give thanks to the sun god for the harvest.
The Meaning of Halloween
Did you know the Meaning of Halloween? Its a “All saints day”, a festival. The day is held to honor the Samhain or “The Lord Of Death”. The idea behind Halloween – is that the eve of the festival, the lord of death, called all of the wicked sprits that within the past year had been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals….sounds weird and freaky
The idea is that one night of the year, the sould of the dead can return to their homes. To be returned to their home they need to be entertained with food (trick or Treat). If the food/homes were not available then the evil souls would cast spells and cause trouble for each person (house) that did not provide the tricks/treats!!!
During the night sacrifices needed to be offered to the dead souls…as they were there to visit their own homes and friends.
The belief about the Halloween theme was that the death of the souls of the “Good Men” were taken over by good spirits. The wicked souls (men) were left to be in a space that was neither the earth nor the moon, but left to the unseen world. Those left in the unseen world hunted the living – in the forms of evil ghosts.
To keep the evil ghosts away and to free you from their evil ways, you must have food and shelter for them during the night time. If those souls were happy with what you were offering then they left you in peace. If they were unhappy then you would have an evil spell cast on you (and your house)!
That is one meaning of the event “Halloween” but there are many other theories out there…..its really not something that we are into!! But I can see how Children would love the event and that is why I wanted to cover Halloween Saftey Tips For Children!
Do You Go Trick or Treating?

Hi Lisa
Thanks for the safety tips on trick or treating. My biggest concern would be children going from door to door, I don’t like that idea. I would prefer to hide the lollies in the garden for the children to find. I never thought of costume saftey and I think the big one is candles, wigs and clothing.
Hi Kerry,
Its funny how we have to think of so many apsects of safety when kids go trick or treating on Halloween. I agree with you about the wigs, clothing and candles.
