Want to switch to a high protein low GI diet? The fastest way to do so is with carefully constructed meal plans. It’s very hard to just walk into a grocery store and correctly pick out the best high protein low GI foods. Instead of doing it haphazardly, you’re much better off if you compile a list of all the foods that match your criteria and go shopping deliberately.

High Protein Low GI FoodsHere are some of the top foods you should be looking for when you’re shopping for a high protein low GI diet

Start With Pure Protein Staples

Did you know that many lean proteins like eggs, avocados and turkey don’t even appear on GI charts?

That’s because their protein content is so high and their carbohydrate content is so low that they don’t even really qualify for a GI rating.

Start by loading up your diet with lean proteins. Make sure you cook these with other low GI foods for a tasty and healthy meal

What Carbohydrates Qualify for this Diet?

Perhaps the lowest GI carbohydrate is pearl barley. Pearl barley has a GI of just 25, while white rice has a GI of 58.

Eating High Protein foodsIn addition to having a lower GI, barley also has a small amount of protein in it. Not nearly as much as lean meats, but enough to make a difference. Give your high protein low GI diet a kickoff by replacing your rice intake with barley

You can also get your carbohydrate intake from yam. Yam has a GI of 35, slightly higher than barley but still lower than the majority of carbohydrates out there.

In addition to having a relatively low GI, yam is also sweet and provides much needed sugar to the body. Since you’re avoiding high GI foods, yam is a great way to get some sweetness in your system without spiking your blood sugar levels.

Add in Low GI Vegetables

What vegetables qualify for this diet?

High Protein Low GI FoodBy and large, most vegetables have very low GIs. For example, artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, celery, cucumber, spinach, eggplants, tomatoes and squash all have GIs of 15 or 10.

Instead of trying to lower your GIs with your vegetables, try to balance out your diet. For example, spinach or kale can add zinc or iron to your diet. Other vegetables can add much needed minerals to your diet.

Also, many vegetables such as spinach and broccoli also have some amount of protein in them. Again, not as much as lean meats, but it all adds up

Add in Low-GI Nuts for Snacks

Nuts have high amounts of protein and can be a great snack for in between meals. Lowest on the GI scale are peanuts, with a GI of 13. Walnuts are next, with a GI of 15. Other nuts are quite a bit higher.

Don’t overdo it with the nuts as they do have a fair amount of fat in them, but the protein content combined with the low GI content make them a great snack for this diet

If you combine all these tips into a meal plan, you’ll have a very solid launching pad for a diet that’s filled with healthy proteins that won’t spike blood sugar levels.

Tonight we wanted to have a quick and easy meal that was healthy, did not take long to cook, we were not the ones cooking it, and we could eat it while out. Our family love pizza – every single member of our family could eat pizza for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Now that we are healthy that wouldn’t happen! Is there such a thing as Healthy Pizzas while you are out and about?

Healthy Pizzas

After we had finished our food shop at Aldi (location – Maroochydore) David decided that we should have an easy meal, and one that we could eat quickly as it was getting late and our boys were tired after having such an amazing day with our friends from Renovating Italy! When our boys are getting grizzly and grumpy we know that we need to feed them asap, and get them home to bed quickly. I also had to get home for my coaching call as I had a Internet Marketing Coaching Client to ring.

As we started to drive through Cotton Tree Dave said to keep an eye out for Eagle Boys or Domino’s Pizzas. Now if you are a fan of either Pizza places then maybe you should cover your eyes for the next few lines – as what I am about to share here might upset you. I was not happy to be looking for either fast food pizza places….Eagle Boys or Domino’s Pizzas are crap. They are not healthy, and they are not good. Surely we can Healthy Pizzas here on the Sunshine Coast?

Law Of Attraction in Action

24/7 Pizza Alexander Headlands

No sooner had I said those words out loud by what should appear before my eyes? A Pizza place at Alexandra Headlands called 24-7 Pizza. It had a flashing light outside that said Pizza $7.00. I quickly told David and he found a place to go left, left again and back onto the main street. As we slowly drove up to the Pizza Shop we were on the look out for car parks. As it so happens there is a small car park out the back! You little ripper – we were all excited as we were going to have Healthy Pizzas for dinner tonight, and no one had to make them, or clean up afterwards!

Life just got so much easier. Life just got so much nicer!

After The Healthy Pizzas

Healthy Pizzas

BBQ Chicken – our boys were delighted to be eating chicken again!

After we had finished eating our BBQ Chicken Pizza and Hawaiin Pizza at $7.00 each, plus the Vegetarian Pizza at $7.95 for the rest of the family (I wont eat red meat, sometimes I will eat chicken) I asked for a brochure from behind the counter so that I could easily keep the 24/7 Pizza number handy.

24/7 Quality Pizza

Vegetarian Pizza For Those That Dont eat Meat

As they had ran out of the flyers, they asked if I mind waiting while they printed out one from the computer quickly. I was happy to wait, as I got to ask questions to those that were working at the shop, and to the owners! Its so good to ask behind the scene questions, and they have no idea that I will be writing about it!

Almost Wood Fire Pizza Oven

We had thought that the Healthy Pizzas were cooked by a Wood Fire Pizza Oven so I was asking questions about their cooking method. The oven they used was that hot that they could easily cook a pizza in less than 5 minutes! All of their ingredients were fresh, and the pizza bases are almost baked fresh daily. Who could ask for more?

I was born to shop. There is no two ways about it! I could shop from the moment I wake up to the time the shops are closed. Wonder what would happen if I had access to a 24 hour shopping centre? I have worked out that Shopping Is Healthy.

A lot of husbands would easily debate this concept, especially my amazing hubby. Actually he has to be so careful that he does not leave his eBay account logged on anymore as that is where I could easily do most of my Shopping.

Shopping Is Healthy

Shopping Is HealthyHow can I get away with saying Shopping Is Healthy? Well seen as this is my blog site, and my blog post I can write what I want….to a certain degree! So if I say that Shopping Is Healthy then so be it.

There I said it!

Just kidding…..the reasons I say that Shopping Is Healthy is because I am addicted to getting out and about, and addicted to living a Healthy Lifestyle. Ever since I brought our Motorhome from eBay (yep I used hubby ebay account without him realising it!) we have done a complete turn around with a lifestyle. We are living a Different Life and we love it.

Here Are My Reasons Why I Say Shopping Is Healthy

Well, since I started the debate about Healthy living I guess I should share my thoughts about Shopping Is Healthy! Here are some of my view points.

If you have any of your own to add, then I am asking for your comments below!

  • You are exercising while you shop. Do you know how many steps it takes to walk from one shopping centre to the other?
  • Life is better when you are active. Getting out of the house is a great mindset activity. You are actually using your brain, your body and you will feel better for it.
  • Make sure you meet a friend or two while you are shopping. Meeting someone that you like, and get along with helps you feel happy
  • If you are shopping for a particular item (maybe a dinner dress, or nice shoes!) then you need to make sure you check out all of the shops before you buy. You need to get a good deal, and make sure its the best price for quality. Shopping around comparing prices means that you have the right attitude about being healthy while shopping
  • Take cash instead of a card. Its so much easier to buy with cash, as you can see where the money is going. If you use a card, then you could easily spend way too much, and be feeling let down by your shopping trip instead of feeling good after wards.
  • Leave the children at home while you shop. If you are looking for something that you want to buy, then make sure you shop while your children are either at home, or at school, or even at a friends house. Make the shopping trip about you!
  • If you do find some really nice clothes, but you cant decide on which ones to buy, then try them all on. As you try on each outfit, take a photo on your phone and then send the picture to your better half. He sure will let you know which one looks the best!
  • Wear comfortable shoes while you are shopping. Comfy shoes are the best as you are able to walk for longer, and walk for more hours (compared to high heels which will be asking you to sit down asap!)
  • If you are doing food shopping then make sure you take a list of what you need – and eat before hand. A quick way to get a huge shopping bill is to do food shopping while hungry. So you need to choose a healthy cafe before you hit the isles with your shopping trolley!
  • Book for your hair to be done at least once every 8 weeks. Or maybe a Massage, Pedicure, Manicure or even a spa. Being healthy starts from the inside, and it flows to the outside
  • Try being really healthy by shopping at organic stores. There are many around, its just a matter of finding them!

Healthy Lifestyle ChallengeI could easily write all day long about how Shopping Is Healthy for you. There is no end to this blog post topic…as I believe that you could start sharing about organic food, raw food, fresh cows milk, vegetarian food, preservative free food, colour free food, gluten free food…..the list is endless.

What Do You Think About Shopping Is Healthy? Do you eat food that is healthy? Do you exercise while out and about? Interested to hear from you.

Cheers

Lisa

I have come to realise that I am happy where ever I can be near water! I must have been a mermaid in my formal life, or maybe a fish, or even a shark! Whatever, all I know is that I feel happy when I am near water. I feel calm, and soothed by the waves…even come away with fresh ideas. Right Near The Beach is where we are living for the moment! Our Motorhome is with 30 minutes to 45 minutes drive to the most amazing beaches on the Sunshine Coast.

Right Near The Beach

I love living near the Beach, it helps me to get active and to be healthy. Walking along the beach is my all time favorite form of exercise, and even going in the surf is a great way to build leg muscles! Right Near The Beach is also fantastic shops – from Antique stores, to Surf Shops, to even cafes/Health Drinks/Coffee Bars/Sushi restaurants…the shops are amazing!

Living Where I Feel Good

Being Healthy on the inside and healthy on the outside starts by feeling Good, and living close to water helps me feel really good. The best part of our lifestyle is how we can travel around Australia, and look for places near the beach to stay. We are so looking forward to visiting many places as we go, but I think that my all time favorites will be living near the ocean…I am not sure about living out in the country where there is nothing but hot dust and cattle! I guess as long as I can cool off in a long hot shower at the end of the day then it will be worth it.

Beaches On The Sunshine Coast

The beaches are amazing on the Sunshine Coast. They are magical! I feel like I am where I am meant to be. I know that I will travel around and fall in love with lots of places. Yet I think that Right Near The Beach is where my heart is.

Right Near The Beach

Living near the water

Living Near the ocean, means living with a lifestyle that is relaxed, and gives you opportunities to be healthy.

Where do you like to live?

Right Near the Beach or in the outback? Or what about somewhere where its only hot or too cold?

Cheers

Ever since I was introduced to Green Smoothies, about three weeks ago, I have had one every morning. They sometimes change in ingredients, and they are so yummy. The best bit about Green Smoothies is the taste, and the health benefits. I have actually noticed that I have lost weight! My tummy looks smaller, and my clothes fit so much more then they used to. The Green Smoothies can be made in so many ways, and can be for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

When its my turn to cook (which it is again tonight!) I like to cook recipes that I know and that are easy. Once I know how to cook the recipe, I usually stick to it at least once a week. I have a few that I know from heart, and don’t even have to follow from a recipe. One that I really like cooking is Quick and Easy Pie – Savoury Impossible Pie!

Quick and Easy Pie

Quick and Easy PieSavoury Impossible Pie is the quickest yummiest Pie recipe that I cook at least once a week. Quick and Easy meals are needed with my family, as they are growing boys and they are always hungry. All of them eat three snacks a day, and three main meals a day. They usually start with Porridge, followed by toast for breakfast. Then they have an apple or kiwi fruit (or the fruit that is in season) for morning tea. Lunch time is usually two sandwiches with another piece of fruit. Afternoon tea is sometimes Biscuits with a cup of tea/milk or if they are really lucky a slice/chocolate cake that there brother Zachery makes.

Bundaberg Cane 2 Coral Zumba

Join The Party

Yesterday I went into Bundaberg Cane2Coral fun walk and run. It was so much fun to walk the 8k. Today I so feel the effect of walking that long! It was amazing how quick 8k did go.

At first the 1k took for ever to reach….but then we kept walking and before we knew it we got to the 2k mark, the 3k mark, and the 4k mark. Once we hit the 5k mark it was a breeze to keep going. Getting to that finish line was fantastic…Jackie from Cake Decorating Books and Supplies talked me into going to the event. So glad that she did because before the race started we got to see Zumba Live with many from the crowd joining in!

Zumba Live At Bundaberg

I was wondering if there was any Zumba Live in Bundaberg….and was so happy to see the live display. I even got the information about Zumba so that I could go to one of their classes this week coming up!
